Dating For Boomers - 10 Dates That Only Cost 10 Dollars

By Lou Bradbard

So, you're over fifty, you're ready to date again, and you're living on a fixed income. Or maybe you'd just like to know about some dates that aren't very expensive. Well here's a list to get you started:

* Take part in free activities offered by your town or city. There are always walking tours, local museums and local sites of interest to visit that don't cost anything. This gives you ten bucks to spend on coffee afterwards!

* Or maybe just have that coffee. A good first date is the popular meeting for a cup of coffee. For $10 you can afford a couple of cups and maybe even muffins to go with the coffee.

* Invite your date over for cards or a board game in the evening after dinner. For $10 you can get an inexpensive bottle of wine or a six pack of beer and raid the refrigerator or cupboards for snacks (prepare these before your date shows up - you don't want to look cheap!)

* Make dinner at home. $10 can be stretched into an entire dinner. Spaghetti and a salad can be as romantic as filet mignon and it costs a heck of a lot less.

* When's your next local farmer's market or street fair? The farmer's market is a great place to pick up some fruits or veggies for your next $10 dinner. And you can get some popcorn, cotton candy or lemonade for less than $10 for two at the street fair. Remember when you took all the kids and it was SO expensive? Well, the kids are on their own now.

* Movie nights are fun! Rent a movie or recycle one that you own but your date hasn't seen. Pop some popcorn. Splurge on something to drink and you're all set for a cozy and romantic evening at home. Go look at the stars. Bring a blanket and some bug spray. Is it kind of cool outside? What a great reason for cuddling!

* Go to the beach - one where you won't have to pay to park. Spend your $10.00 on a big jug of lemonade and some snacks and you're set for some fun. Don't forget the sunblock.

* But it's winter? What's more romantic than bundling up and going for a walk in the falling snow around twilight? Oh, yeah, it's the hot cocoa at your house after the walk where you have to snuggle to get warm.

* Visit your local bookstore. Many bookstores offer a place to sit with a cup of coffee to peruse the books you're thinking of buying - or not buying. Have a great afternoon talking about your latest reads and discovering new ones. What a great way to learn more about your date's interests. And, except for the optional cup of coffee, it's free.

Don't let your finances hold you back from finding the next love of your life. There are a myriad of things you can do that don't cost a lot and many don't cost anything at all. Intersperse those activities with one's that cost a little more and you will surely have enough money to enjoy dating.
